Accommodation:
- Accommodation is provided in the respite houses. Volunteers share bedroom with one other volunteer.
- Bathrooms are shared.
- There is a living/TV room, available to all volunteers.
- Kitchen. Volunteers make their own meals and shop for their own food. Money is provided for food.
- Oratory. There is a small oratory in the house, which may be accessed by all volunteers.
- Volunteers have responsibility for keeping these rooms clean.
Meals:
- Three meals a day.
- Money provided for food.
- Volunteers must shop and cook own meals.
Allowance:
- Each volunteer must open a bank account in Ireland, into which a weekly allowance of sixty-five euro is paid.
Training:
- Training is provided at intervals throughout the volunteers stay in the house.
- All volunteers must attend training sessions in:
- Health and Safety;
- Manual Handling;
- Fire Safety;
- Food Hygiene.
Supervision and support:
- Each volunteer is assigned a supervisor, and weekly meetings take place between supervisor and volunteer.
- For volunteers on a three-month contract, there is a trial period of one month. For volunteers on a twelve-month contract there is a trial period of 3 months. At the end of the trial period, there is a review before any further commitment is given.
- CASA have a policy on supervision and support, which can be made available to volunteer on request on arrival.
- Potential volunteers will usually be required to attend a trial break.
Holidays:
- In twelve months the volunteer gets 30 days holidays.10 days at Christmas and 4 weeks during the year split into 2-week segments. Holidays are set by the respite house.
Useful Information
Passport/visas: European Union citizens do not require a visa, but you do need your passport. If you are a citizen of the United States or Canada, you don't need a visa for the first 90 days of your stay in Ireland. For information on visa requirements, you should contact the Irish Embassy in your own country. We will give you a letter stating you have a volunteer position.
Transport: Both our houses are situated 30minutes from city centre by bus. Good bus and rail service to city centre.
Location: Both houses are situated in North County Dublin. Malahide and Swords. Malahide is on the Coast. Both are busy towns. The houses are in residential neighbourhoods.
